Who moves UK to France
A broad mix. Families relocating for work near Paris or Lyon. Retirees heading for the warmth and space of the south-west. And a steady stream of second-home owners furnishing a place in Normandy or Brittany — close enough to nip back, far enough for a proper change. Each is a slightly different job, mostly because of what customs expects, which is why we ask early.
The route
From anywhere in the UK we route down to the Channel — down the M20/M2 to Dover or the Eurotunnel at Folkestone — then onto the French autoroutes: the A16 down the coast, the A1 toward Paris, or a longer haul south to Provence and the Riviera. We regularly reach Paris & Île-de-France, Normandy & Brittany, the Dordogne and plenty in between. Because it’s the shortest hop, it’s also the route where a last-minute part-load stands the best chance.
Customs and paperwork
Since the UK left the EU, household goods crossing to France need an inventory, a transit declaration for the goods moving through the EU, and — for a permanent move — the transfer-of-residence paperwork that can bring your belongings in without duty when the conditions are met. A second-home move follows a different path, so we confirm which you’re making before a form is filled. It’s process, not obstacle, and it’s ours to handle.

UK-to-France questions
Can you do a short-notice move to France?
Often, yes — France is our quickest European route, and a part-load can go on a vehicle already heading for the Channel. Tell us the destination and your timeframe and we’ll tell you honestly what’s realistic. We won’t guarantee a day before we’ve seen the job, but we’ll move on it fast.
Do you cover rural France or just the cities?
Both — and rural is a lot of the work. Farmhouses in the Dordogne, village houses in Normandy, places down a lane with no number to speak of. We plan the last few miles from the survey so the lorry isn’t meeting a single-track road for the first time on the day.
Is a second-home move different from emigrating?
On customs, yes. A permanent move can use transfer-of-residence relief; furnishing a holiday home is treated differently and the paperwork follows. We’ll ask which it is early, because it changes the forms.
